Orlando, Florida - June 12, 2026 - Engineering Support Personnel, Inc., (ESP) is excited to announce that it has officially received FAA approval for our Basic Aviation Training Device (BATD), CALPYSO. Having this approval is a tremendous milestone for ESP, putting it on a path for providing a very capable and cost effective solution to the training community.
Having an approved BATD allows you to log flight time on our approved BATD in your logbook. If you have an Instrument Rating, you can use our FAA approved BATD to maintain instrument currency. In the presence of a CFI, you can also use our training device to contribute to certain requirements of a private pilot certificate and instrument rating.
CALYPSO is unique in that it offers a representation of the flight controls found in a Cessna 172 configuration. Actual buttons and knobs are provided, no distracting touch screens or cumbersome screen overlays. CALYPSO offers force feedback yoke and rudder and more. This is one of the most realistic, most affordable FAA approved training devices currently available of such quality.
